Shredding companies offer an attractive alternative to expensive, messy shredders.
Be careful to find out the details, however. One of the most popular companies, Shred-it, offers convenient boxes to deposit paper that they will shred later. The boxes have badly designed locks and actually decrease security by concentrating sensitive paper and not protecting it.
